Barry refused entrance in USA
Trouble at American customs.
Amsterdam 02 - 04 -2002
Well, I did reach America, or at least a very large room full of very large people wearing guns and chewing gum!
I stepped off the plane having filled out a very intimidating form which included some very ambiguous questions including;
"Have you at any time been convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude or illegal substances or been in prison for
longer than 5 years?"... - so not knowing what "moral turpitude" means (neither did the officer!) and only ever spending 7
months in prison on a suspicion of at an unknown time and place I may have had an unknown drug and thinking that it was only
one question I answered NO.
Big mistake...the answer was YES!
There were three questions, only one answer! Which is still very confusing.
So in the holding room we started again;
- Question no 1. (thinks! uhm, sorry I have never had an encounter with a turp on the metro) Well it seems that I have currupted
the turps of America, how I still don't know...
- Question no 2. yes 3 times I was was convicted of the most disgusting crime of smoking hash.
- Question no 3. See interrogation forms to be added to diary later for the rest of the conversation. It makes rather engrossing
reading.
All during this time I was not allowed contact, telephone, etc, with anyone and no one who rang was given any information. For the
next 8 hours I spent just sitting, playing my Jew's harps and harmonica's among hardened felons which included crying babies and people
who had stayed a day longer on their last visit. Being taken for a piss every so often by an ever so friendly officer! Who bought me a
mouth size chicken burger and a coffee.
In the end I was put on a plane and told that I would not have a problem getting a visa as the 3 offences involved such a small amount
and the first being in 1968 the last in 1978 and that I would be back in a few days.
The American ambassy inmsterdam thought otherwise...
