Old church in state of flux
Amsterdam 11 - 05 -2003
I am becoming involved in many activities at TVAK, The squatted church on Rijn Straat 93
including the monthly poetry evenings and the reopening of the Saturday evening restaurant.
You will be able to have a three course meal + entertainment for € 4.50. This will start
on the 24th of May at 8pm with a "Latino" evening. Limited places so please try
and book.
For bookings and more info tel. Craig on his mobile: 061 326 1589
The church is in a constant state of flux, artists move around the space
inside the vast interior using the space. At the same time there could be music & dancers
rehearsing or it could be a film night or a choir that you encounter when
you walk through the door. Last week there was a poetry evening, with music
live and on disc, jazz, Witte Aap and his Jews harps, modern folk mixed with
some of the most entertaining poetry to be heard in Amsterdam.
There is talk of plays, concerts and other events. I will keep you posted on
the latest news as it happens.
If you are in the city please feel free to visit, there is always someone
there to welcome you, sit and have a beer or a coffee, look at the paintings
talk with the artists and the other people involved. I think you will be
pleasantly surprised at the standard of some of the work being done there,
I know that I was. I will try and get some artwork for the next newsletter.
Its well into spring here at the moment. some times it even feels like
summer, many evens are in preparation all around the city, Zaal 100 on the
3rd Wednesday will host the start of the Free book week, in early June there
will be the annual poetry festival at Ruigoord (http://www.ruigoord.nl)
More news on that as soon as I have more details...
